I got my first newsroom job in Seattle in 1999, which means I learned the trade covering companies that went public on a Tuesday and stopped existing by the following spring. That was a useful education. Since then I have covered the search wars, the rise of the app stores, the chip shortages, the antitrust cases against the biggest platforms, and the current argument about what artificial intelligence is actually worth.
I tend to write the longer explainer: how a market actually works, who pays whom, and why a deal that looks boring on paper might matter more than the launch everyone is talking about. I like a good analogy, and I try very hard to stop at one per story.
My parents are Swedish, I was born in Minneapolis, and I studied journalism at the University of Minnesota. I live in Seattle with too many old phones in a drawer.
